Ten Students Named to the 2009-2010 Dexter/USBC High School All-American Team
Dexter Bowling, the world’s best-selling bowling shoe, and the United States Bowling Congress, the national governing body of the sport, proudly announce their selections to the 2009-2010 Dexter/USBC High School All-American Team.
Each year, 10 students throughout the country are selected to the team based on their bowling accomplishments, academic achievement, activities and community involvement, and essays as well as letters of recommendation from coaches, teachers, and other mentors.
The five male and five female students selected for this year’s team are:
Morgan Brown – As a junior at East Brunswick High School in East Brunswick, N.J., Brown was selected first team all-state by the Star-Ledger and was the top qualifier at the NJSIAA state tournament and placed second in the individual championship.
Megan Buja - A graduating senior at Jefferson High School of Rockford, Ill., Buja bowled the fourth 300 game in IHSA history, and led her team to a runner-up finish at the 2010 Illinois State Championships. One of four young women ever to be named to the All-American team for two consecutive years, she coaches middle school bowlers in her free time.
Kevin Donovan - A graduating senior at Corning-Painted Post West High School in Painted Post, N.Y. Donovan, who helped found his school’s bowling program, led the team to two Southern Tier Athletic Conference titles, and set a single-season conference record for average (227.1).
Rivers Jones – A graduating senior at the Redemptorist High School in Clinton, La., Jones has the unique distinction of being elected as team captain by his peers for all four years of his high school bowling career.
Ana Koff – As a junior at the Gulliver Prep School in Miami, Koff was the 2009 Florida state singles champion, and spent this past season bowling with brother and teammate Andrew, with whom she founded the organization Bowl for All.
Andrew Koff – A graduating senior at Miami’s Gulliver Prepatory School, Koff holds the distinct honor of being the only person to be named to the Dexter/USBC All-American Team for three consecutive seasons. This founding member of Bowl for All is a two-time Junior Team USA member and finished eighth in the Florida High School Athletic Association state tournament.
Nicole Parkhurst – A graduating senior from Proctor High School in Utica, N.Y, Parkhurst was the second place finisher at the New York State High School Tournament. She led her team to the Section III team title and also won the singles title. She was a member of the Dexter/USBC All-American Team for two consecutive years.
William Paul – A graduating senior from Wichita High School South in Kansas, Paul performed on his school’s varsity team during all four years of his high school career. He was also the winner of the Kansas Class 6A State Singles.
Rachel Sather – A graduating senior from Cypress Creek High School in Orlando, Fla., Sather captained her school’s team from 2006-2009, most recently leading them to a district title. A USBC Bronze coach, she has volunteered with Special Olympics and Junior Achievement bowling events.
Christian Weber – A graduating senior from Cincinnati, Ohio’s St. Xavier High School, Weber was a four-year starter for the team, leading the team to two state appearances. He was selected bowler of the year by the Cincinnati Enquirer in 2010.
For this honor, each student will receive a $1,000 scholarship and an award which will be presented at the 2010 USBC Junior Gold Championships, to be held in Indianapolis this July, and will be profiled in the 2011-2012 edition of the Dexter Bowling catalog.
“The student-athletes on this year’s Dexter All-American team are not only outstanding bowlers, but they are successful in the classroom and active in their communities,” said Bud Clapsaddle, Dexter Bowling’s Vice President. “Each has worked diligently to achieve success on and off the lanes and we are proud to recognize their efforts.”
